About the album Abigail

The Danish band King Diamond released one of the most interesting and unique heavy metal albums of the 1980s, Abigail, in 1987. This album is the one with which King Diamond built their legend among fans of this particular music scene.

Abigail is a concept album. Song by song, the story of the young couple Miriam Natias and Jonathan La'Fey is built. In 1854, they inherit a mansion and decide to move there, where they encounter various paranormal situations. Abigail was the name of the girl born to Miriam who died after her birth. Beyond the originality of the album's thematic content, what also impresses is Kim Bendix Petersen, or otherwise King Diamond's ability to interpret songs in different ways, creating a thriller atmosphere. Musically, the entire album balances between heavy metal, opera, and what would be called symphonic metal a few years later.

Abigail achieved success in Europe, especially in Scandinavia. In the USA, it reached No. 123, selling only 175,000 copies.
