Kaka de Luxe (EP) by Kaka de Luxe
About the album Kaka de Luxe (EP)
The self-titled EP of Kaka de Luxe, released in June 1978, is one of the most emblematic relics of the Spanish rock music scene, as it marked the official birth of punk in Spain. The band Kaka de Luxe is considered the precursor of the Movida Madrileña, the countercultural movement that flourished in Madrid after Franco's dictatorship.
The sound of the EP was a raw combination of punk rock with influences from glam and protopunk (such as the Stooges), characterized by distorted guitars and provocative slang lyrics. The EP was released by Chapa Discos, a label specializing in the hard sound of the era.
The songs on the Kaka de Luxe EP were four: Rosario, Toca El Pito, Viva El Metro, and La Pluma Eléctrica. The total duration of the EP was 8 minutes and 2 seconds, which was sufficient, but also extremely significant for what followed in the Spanish rock scene in the coming decades, as the band served as a "nursery" for some of the most important names in the Spanish pop/rock scene.
