About the album Blue Train

Blue Train is the second discographic contribution of John Coltrane. The album was released by Blue Note Records, recorded at Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey, and the recording took one day, on the 15th of September, 1957. Blue Train was released in January 1958.

Here, John Coltrane presents his ideas on the genre of jazz known as hard bop. Coltrane took some time off from Thelonious Monk's quartet, with which he was participating at the time, and recorded with the help of some of Miles Davis's musicians and some other musicians who Blue Note paid to rehearse their parts.

Although Blue Train is an album that comes at the start of Coltrane's career, it remains one of the most remarkable albums of his entire journey. It reached No.1 on the Billboard for jazz albums. The producer of Blue Train was Alfred Lion.
