About the album Zoolook

The French composer in 1984, with the release of Zoolook, continues to surprise and impress with his original ideas in electronic music. Zoolook becomes the seventh album of Jean-Michel Jarre.

The characteristic of Zoolook as an album is not so much its music, but the fact that the artist recorded various phrases in 25 different languages and incorporated them into various parts of his compositions. Some phrases are ones that Jarre himself recorded during his travels around the world, but significant was also the contribution of phrases from the French ethnologist Xavier Bellanger, who provided him with part of his material. Jarre's entire effort is part of an ever-growing trend that started in the 1980s for many artists to engage with ethnic music and incorporate it into pop and rock forms.

The truth is that when Zoolook was released, it baffled people and did not receive the best of reviews. Nowadays, however, it is considered one of the most interesting works of Jean-Michel Jarre, at least in terms of the idea he had and implemented. In the United Kingdom, it has sold 60,000 copies. The "success" of the album was the composition named after the album, which was also accompanied by a music video.
