About the album Running On Empty
American songwriter and singer Jackson Browne, just before his thirties, attempts something unusual for the recording industry: to record his new album with new songs while on tour in the U.S.A. Thus, 1977's Running On Empty is the result of recordings made on stage, in studios here and there, on the tour bus - even in hotel rooms.
Musically, the album juggles between rock and country rock. The main theme of the songs is life on the move as Browne, his band, and the technicians surrounding him are on the road setting up the stage and playing their music throughout the United States. The cover photo could not be more successful and characteristic.
The album was especially loved in the U.S.A. and turned Jackson Browne into a major star of the American rock community. The album has sold 7,000,000 copies in the U.S.A.
