Full Moon, Dirty Hearts by INXS
About the album Full Moon, Dirty Hearts
Full Moon, Dirty Hearts was released in November 1993, serving as the ninth studio album by INXS. The recording took place at Capri Digital Studios in Italy, with the band pursuing a "dirtier" and more alternative sound, influenced by the dominance of grunge. Mark Opitz, who had previously worked with them on the iconic Kick, was at the helm of production.
The album features the participation of soul legend Ray Charles (!) on "Please (You Got That...)" and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) on the title track "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts." The lead single, "The Gift," stood out for its provocative music video, capturing the group's effort to remain relevant in a changing music scene. Stylistically, the album is darker and rawer than their previous pop-funk works.
Despite expectations, commercial success was limited compared to the past. It reached No. 3 in Australia and No. 4 in the UK, but struggled on the US charts. In the United States, official sales of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts have barely exceeded 150,000 copies.
