About the album Death Certificate
Ice Cube "cuts and stitches" from soul and funk tracks of the 1970s, writes provocative and clever rhymes, creates his second album, and thus establishes his position among the greats of the West Coast hip hop scene in the early 1990s. The album Death Certificate starts with its cover, which features a corpse wrapped in the American flag, while a tag hangs from its foot indicating the name of the corpse, which is ... "Uncle Sam".
The Death Certificate began recording in late 1990 and occupied Ice Cube during a large part of 1991 as he was also involved with other musical or film projects. The album is divided into two parts. The first part is called The Death Side, while the second is called The Life Side. The producers of the album were Ice Cube himself, Sir Jinx, and the Boogiemen.
The Death Certificate was released on October 29, 1991, and reached No.2 on the Billboard, selling 200,000 copies in its first week of release in the USA. Its total sales in the United States are now estimated at more than 2,000,000.
