About the album The Predator
Ice Cube was preparing and recording material for his third album during 1991 and 1992. Thus, the recording of The Predator coincided with what happened in Los Angeles for six days from April 29 to May 3, 1992, when riots broke out due to the acquittal of the white police officers who had beaten Rodney King and, unfortunately for the officers, someone recorded all the events on video. The album's song Who Got The Camera? talks exactly about this incident.
The Predator and its sound belong mostly to what we call hardcore hip hop, while on the other hand, there are also its clear G-funk moments, such as Wicked, as well as It Was a Good Day - the album's biggest hit - and Check Yo Self.
The album went straight to the top of the Billboard from the first week, selling 193,000 copies in the U.S., and to date has surpassed 2,000,000 copies and entered the realm of legend for hip hop scene enthusiasts.
