About the album Howlin' Wolf
Chess Records selects twelve recordings of Howlin' Wolf from 1957 to 1961 and releases the artist's second album from Mississippi in early 1962. Most of the songs are compositions by Willie Dixon. There are also two compositions by Howlin' Wolf himself, Who's Been Talkin and Tell Me. The album was produced by Ralph Bass.
The album title simply bears the name of the blues man, but there have been some editions of the record titled The Rockin' Chair Album because of its cover image. The album is full of great compositions that belong to the blues subgenre called Chicago blues. Here, one can hear legendary blues songs such as Who's Been Talkin', Back Door Man, or The Red Rooster, which was covered by the Rolling Stones in 1964 as Little Red Rooster and reached No. 1 in Great Britain, making it the only pure blues song to ever reach the top of the United Kingdom as a single (!)
Over the decades, Howlin' Wolf has won numerous awards. In 1984, he received the Blues Music Award from The Blues Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the Blues and its tradition in the U.S.A.
