About the album Trespass
1970's Trespass was the second album by Genesis. It was recorded in July 1970 and released in October of the same year. Trespass is not considered among Genesis' great albums from a musical standpoint, but it may have been the most important album that defined the continuation of their career.
In Trespass, Genesis begin to shape the progressive rock sound that would characterize them in their later works. Immediately after its recording, guitarist Anthony Phillips decided to leave, leading the others to even consider dissolving the band as the album didn't have the impact they wanted. Ultimately, they decide to continue. They dismiss drummer John Mayhew, and in his place comes a new drummer who can also sing. This is none other than Phil Collins.
Ultimately, the success that Trespass experienced in Belgium, where it reached No.1 (!), led them to change their decision and continue, as unexpectedly they had achieved their first international success beyond the United Kingdom, where the album initially had barely sold 6,000 copies (!)
