About the album ...And Then There Were Three...
And Then There Were Three from 1978 is the ninth studio album by Genesis, but at the same time, it is also a landmark album for the band. As the album's title precisely describes, Genesis are now three and will remain three for the rest of their career. The departure of Steve Hackett inevitably brought Phil Collins one step forward in terms of his contribution to the compositions that the group wrote.
Musically, the album follows the path of progressive rock, but it seems that something is beginning to change. Elements of art rock, as well as pop/rock, appear. The production is done by Genesis themselves and David Hentschel. In order to create And Then There Were Three, Genesis spent September and October of 1977 in the Netherlands at Relight Studios.
The song that certainly drew more attention than the rest was the one that closed the album, Follow You Follow Me, which was released as the first single of the album, reaching No.7 in the United Kingdom and No.23 on the Billboard chart. This was another change that emerged with And Then There Were Three: Genesis began to have commercial appeal through their singles.
