Solid Gold by Gang Of Four
About the album Solid Gold
After the Yellow EP with four songs, Gang Of Four return with their second studio album titled Solid Gold in March 1981, following the post-punk character they have adopted from the start of their career. Dub and reggae rhythms over which rugged electric guitar passages are recorded. And all this as singer Jon King sings the lyrics he has written for each song on the album.
The album, compared to Gang Of Four's first recording effort, has a more experimental character. Thus, the album was not easy to dominate commercially, but that - perhaps - may not have been the band's goal. In the production, alongside the four members of the group, there is also the American producer Jimmy Douglass.
The album reached No. 52 in Britain, while the Americans pushed it up to No. 192 on the Billboard.
