In The Garden by Eurythmics
About the album In The Garden
In 1980, during the rise of the New Wave, a duo appeared in London consisting of Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, who were united by their shared past in the short-lived band the Tourists, as well as their own romantic relationship. Their debut was In The Garden, released in 1981. The name of the duo was Eurythmics.
The musical style of the album mixes elements from the electronic music of the time, the recent works of David Bowie (Berlin Trilogy), post-punk, and generally seems to balance between the musical innovations of the late '70s. The album's producer was the German Conny Plank, who had an active role behind many Krautrock albums, which undoubtedly influenced the sound of Eurythmics' first album. The album was recorded in a farm somewhere outside of Cologne.
The album was a commercial failure. Very soon, however, things would change, and the Eurythmics would become one of the most important and successful British bands of the '80s. They just needed to shake off all their dark "German" influences, and everything would fall into place.
