About the album Dawn
The Dawn of 1976 marks a new beginning for the German pioneers of progressive rock, Eloy. Frank Bornemann had dissolved Eloy the previous year to get rid of the band's manager, Jay Partridge, with whom he had many disagreements. After encouragement from his record label, Electrola, he reformed Eloy by collaborating with different musicians.
The album Dawn is a concept album, which follows the previous Power And The Passion. The protagonist Jamie has died, and as one composition follows another, we watch his spirit searching through space and time for his beloved Jeanne (!). The composer of all the tracks is Jürgen Rosenthal.
Down is the fifth studio album by Eloy and is considered one of the best and most complete works by the band from Hanover. It would not be an exaggeration to compare it with the most notable works of the English progressive rock bands of that era and to consider it their equal.
