About the album On The Border

On The Border is the third studio album by the American rock band Eagles, which was released in March 1974. It is considered a defining moment in their career, as it marked the transition from the country-rock sound of the first two albums to a more pure hard rock orientation. It is the first album featuring guitarist Don Felder, who was initially hired to play slide guitar on Good Day In Hell but impressed the band so much that he became its fifth member.

The band started recording with Glyn Johns in London, but after two songs (Best Of My Love and You Never Cry Like A Lover), they turned to producer Bill Szymczyk in Los Angeles to achieve a "harder" sound. The standout songs were Already Gone, Best Of My Love, which reached No. 1 on the US charts and became their first major hit, and James Dean, which was a tribute to the iconic actor, a song that was initially written for their previous album, Desperado. Also notable was Ol' '55, which was a cover of a song by Tom Waits.

The album On The Border reached No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 2,000,000 copies. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at No. 28 on the charts, while in the Netherlands, it reached as high as No. 3.
