Communiqué by Dire Straits
About the album Communiqué
In mid-1979, Dire Straits' second studio album, Communiqué, will be released and it will seem like a natural continuation of their debut - at least in terms of musical style. It is the last album that includes Mark Knopfler's brother, Dave, as he left the band afterward.
It was produced by Americans Barry Beckett and Jerry Wexler. For the recording sessions, the band went to Nassau in the Bahamas. The recording lasted from November 28 to December 12, 1978. The tracks on Communiqué stand out for their nostalgic style.
Communiqué did not have the commercial impact of Dire Straits' first album, but it managed to keep them at the forefront. Relatively speaking, the album's greatest success was in Germany and France. In Germany, it sold 500,000 copies and in France, 600,000.
