About the album Strange Highways
The band Dio in 1993 released their sixth album, continuing to insist on the heavy metal sound that had established them in the 1980s, with a clear effort to renew and adapt to the new conditions that prevailed in the heavy sound of the new decade. The title of the album is Strange Highways and it consists of eleven songs for which the main creator is Ronnie James Dio, though he had help with the music of some songs from drummer Vinny Appice and bassist Jeff Pilson.
The composition of the band has changed and this certainly does not help. On guitars, we hear Tracy G for the first time, who will remain with the band until 1999. Strange Highways was recorded at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles and its producer was Mike Fraser with whom Dio collaborated once and for the last time.
The album did not become a major success for Dio. Despite the 74,000 officially recorded copies sold in the USA, Strange Highways became the first album of the band not to enter the Top-100 of the Billboard, remaining at No.142.
