Dio, or Ronald James Padavona as his real name was, was an iconic American singer and songwriter in rock and metal music. Born on July 10, 1942, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he became famous as the singer for the bands Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and later with his own band, Dio. He was known for his unique, powerful voice and the thematic, fantastical content of his lyrics. His career deeply influenced the heavy metal scene and his contribution to music established him as one of the most beloved artists of the genre. Dio died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010, leaving behind a rich musical legacy.
