About the album Spirit

Spirit will make its appearance on the market in the spring of 2017 and will be the fourteenth album of Depeche Mode. No one knew at the time that it would be their last album recorded as a trio. Unfortunately, Andy Fletcher, who had been in the band since 1977, died from a heart artery complication at the age of just 60.

The theme of Spirit deals with the political and social developments taking place worldwide during those years. They were concerned by the fact that the far-right American political commentator and self-proclaimed neo-Nazi Richard B. Spencer once praised Depeche Mode. Gohan stated in an interview that he was particularly annoyed and distanced himself clearly from these political views. For this reason, the first single from Spirit was Where's The Revolution, through which, and its accompanying video clip, they projected a leftist-socialist approach to political and social issues.

The commercial appeal of the album reached 800,000 copies worldwide.
