About the album Music For The Masses
Music For The Masses of 1987 was the sixth and final studio album of the English band Depeche Mode for the '80s. In hindsight, and now knowing how the band's history was written, this particular album stands as the culmination of the creative journey of the leading synth-pop band of the 1980s. From the next album onward, things would take a different musical turn.
Music For The Masses opened the gates of the USA for Depeche Mode. The album went platinum, and to promote it in the USA, the band conducted two tours in the USA, culminating in the concert held in the city of Pasadena, California, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in front of 80,000 Depeche Mode fans.
The album's title hinted at Depeche Mode's intention to make as many people as possible listen to their songs. The initial idea for the title came from a joke by Martin Gore, who during a conversation about what the title of the new album would be, mentioned that he had heard an old record titled Music For The Millions.
