About the album The Book Of Taliesyn
"The Book of Taliesyn", one of the oldest Welsh manuscript books from the early 14th century, gave the title to the second album of Deep Purple. The recordings were completed in October 1968, and to meet the scheduled dates for concerts in the United States, it was released immediately there and in mid-1969 in their homeland.
Here, Deep Purple follow the same path as with their first album, namely psychedelic rock, covers of hits presented in their own way, and some of their own compositions. In The Book Of Taliesyn, the songs take on a longer duration, and thus we can assume that Deep Purple are also moving towards progressive rock - in a way.
The album failed to meet the expectations of their record company. The success did not come in the USA, and in England, Deep Purple appeared in front of a relatively small circle of the band's friends. Over time, the album was re-evaluated and managed to capture the interest of at least the very loyal fans of the band that emerged in the following years.
