About the album Scream Bloody Gore

Death from the State of Florida started as a band in 1983. Four years later, having signed a contract with Combat Records, they recorded and released their first album titled Scream Bloody Gore. This particular album has achieved legendary status as many consider it the first fully-fledged album of death metal.

Behind the album was the then twenty-year-old Chuck Schuldiner, who wrote the music and lyrics, played guitars and bass, performed vocals, and also produced the album in collaboration with Randy Burns. The album cover is a work of American designer and graphic artist Ed Repka.

When Scream Bloody Gore was first released, it surprised, confused, and was perhaps ignored even by connoisseurs of the genre. For example, in 1987, the magazine Kerrang rated the album with one star out of five. In 2011, the same magazine rated it with five out of five stars (!) For the record, Scream Bloody Gore entered the Billboard Top-200 reaching No. 174.
