To Mega Therion by Celtic Frost
About the album To Mega Therion
The Swiss band Celtic Frost was formed in June 1984 in Zurich. A year later, in 1985, they released their second album titled To Mega Therion, which is nothing more than the transcription in Latin characters of the Greek phrase "Το Μέγα Θηρίον," a phrase found in the Bible in its Greek language edition, and obviously refers to Satan.
The album cover was a work by Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger and the painting was titled Satan I and its purpose was to provoke.
To Mega Therion is one of those early heavy metal albums that pushed the already aggressive and wild sound to even more extreme points. When the album was first released, it was another thrash metal record, but over the years and with the creation of the Death Metal genre, the album is considered among the pioneering albums of the genre.
