A Rush Of Blood To The Head by Coldplay
About the album A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Coldplay returned to discography in 2002 with the second studio album of their career and had already become superstars thanks to 2000's Parachutes. The stakes, therefore, were huge as they had to prove that the worldwide success of their debut was no accident. A Rush Of Blood To The Head would not take long to prove its own worth as an album. An album full of alternative rock and art rock compositions, the third single from the record, Clocks, would feature everywhere and would dominate as a favorite listening choice for the pop audience worldwide for many years to come. Audiences and music critics loved it from the start, and A Rush Of Blood To The Head is now Coldplay's second best-selling album globally.
The minimalist cover - which also helped promote the album - was a work by Norwegian fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø, who created it by photographing model Mim for the English lifestyle magazine Dazed & Confused. The photography technique he used at the time was not perfected, resulting in this imperfect outcome, which, however, made it into the magazine and primarily attracted the interest of Chris Martin, who asked Sølve Sundsbø for permission for Coldplay to use it on their album cover.
Coldplay collaborated with producer Ken Nelson and created eleven new compositions that were recorded from September 2001 to July 2002. The album was released in late August 2002 and reached the top positions of all the charts in almost all countries. The top chart positions came like a flood. From Australia and New Zealand to the USA and Finland. In the United Kingdom, it went ten times platinum (!), a feat achieved by only a few albums. It is estimated that around 11,700,000 copies have been sold worldwide.
