About the album The River
A new decade has just begun, and Bruce Springsteen, with the invaluable help of the E-Street Band and producer Jon Landau, records at the legendary Power Station studios in New York what was to become his one and only double studio album, The River.
The River was released in October 1980, and its recordings lasted from March 1979 to August 1980. A sense of freedom prevailed in the studio in terms of what each member did, balanced with Springsteen's perfectionism. The result of this situation was the creation of an album that sounded like a garage band's recording, yet everything was meticulously crafted and under control.
Springsteen writes twenty songs - better yet, twenty small stories - about the situations that could potentially unfold in the lives of everyday Americans across the USA. Five million of them were convinced and embraced these stories from the Boss.
