About the album Up Tight

"Up Tight" is a 1968 American drama film directed by Jules Dassin. It was a modernized version of John Ford's 1935 film The Informer, based on the book of the same name by Liam O’Flaherty, but the setting was shifted from Dublin to Cleveland.

This film follows the story of a black nationalist organization in Cleveland (based mainly in the Hough and Glenville neighborhoods), which becomes disillusioned with nonviolence after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and prepares for urban guerrilla warfare.

The soundtrack was performed by Booker T. & the M.G.'s. The album's big hit was the single Time Is Tight, which reached the Top-10 of the Billboard in a different version from the one heard on the soundtrack. Many years later, it was covered by the English band The Clash. The OST Up Tight reached No. 98 on the Billboard.
