At the end of 2019, Bon Jovi had almost completed their fifteenth studio album of their now long-standing career, titled 2020. Things did not go as expected as the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and everything was delayed. Thus, it took until October 2020 for the album to be completed as the new record.

Initially, the band had written 23 songs of which 10 were selected for the album. The musical style is much closer to pure American rock rather than hard rock. Meanwhile, as the release of the album was delayed, Jon Bon Jovi was able to write two other songs for the upcoming album that were not even considered initially. One was Do What You Can, the theme of which dealt with the pandemic, and the other was American Reckoning, which focused on the tragic death of George Floyd due to suffocation caused by a policeman pressing his knee on his neck.

In 2020 it reached No.19 in the U.S., while in European countries it climbed to higher positions, such as in Austria and Spain where it reached No.2 or in Germany at No.3.
