The Great Escape is Blur's fourth album, and in retrospect, we can say that with it, their journey in pure britpop is completed and culminated.
Blur's singer and songwriter, Damon Albarn, has stated that the lyrics of the songs are about his personal life as he experienced it during the creation period of The Great Escape.
The album hit No.1 in Britain, thanks to its sales it went triple platinum, and entered the Top-10 in several other European countries. In the U.S., it only reached No.150. Stephen Street was the producer of The Great Escape.
