About the album 13

In 1999, the year 13 was released, britpop was certainly a thing of the past. Blur had already adapted to the new musical reality from the previous album, and so the sixth album in the band's discography from London moves in the musical directions of alternative rock, art rock, while there are also musical experiments - sometimes extreme for Blur's standards. The album's title comes from the thirteen compositions that the record contains.

The relationships between the members were not at their best. A characteristic of this situation was the fact that the guitarist, composer, and founding member of the band, Graham Coxon, left after the recording and it took about ten years for his return. Another change was in the face of the producer. Long-time producer Stephen Street, who had been with them since their debut, was replaced by William Orbit.

The first single from the album was Tender, which reached No.2 in the UK. As an album, 13 managed to reach No.1 in Blur's homeland and became their fourth consecutive album to top the charts. Album sales in Britain exceeded 300,000, making the album platinum. It would also be their last album with such great commercial appeal.
