About the album Charmed Life

Charmed Life was the fourth studio album for Billy Idol and came after four years of absence from recording. A major difference in this album is the absence of guitarist Steve Stevens, who at that time had just released his first solo effort.

The sound of Charmed Life compared to Billy Idol's previous works relies much more on synthesizers and drum machines. For sure, it did not come close to the hard rock sound of his other albums. The first single from the album was The Cradle Of Love, followed by L.A. Woman, a cover of the Doors' hit, and Prodigal Blues. The release of Charmed Life was marked by a tragic event. Just the day after completing the album's preparations, Billy Idol had a serious motorcycle accident that nearly cost him his leg.

The album had a good run on the charts as it reached No. 15 in the United Kingdom and No. 11 in the United States.
