About the album Ill Communication

In 1994, the Beastie Boys released their fourth studio album, Ill Communication, an extremely peculiar mix primarily of hip hop, punk rock, jazz fusion, funk, and whatever else the trio from New York could think of and combine. Without a doubt, it was a highly pioneering and experimental effort that did not lack a pop touch, which is why it became one of the most commercially successful albums of the Beastie Boys.

The production of the album belongs to the Beastie Boys and DJ Mario Caldato Jr. The cover photo is by photographer Bruce Davidson, who took it in 1964 at a drive-in dinner in Los Angeles for Esquire magazine, but it was never published by the magazine.

Ill Communication was the second Beastie Boys album to reach No. 1 in the United States, where its sales have reached 3,000,000. It is estimated that another 500,000 copies were sold in the rest of the world.
