War by U2
About the album War
The Irish quartet U2, with the release of War in 1983, completed their trilogy of new wave and post-punk musical exploration. War is the first pinnacle that U2 achieved. The album contains two of the most iconic songs of the band's career and the entire 80s decade: Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day.
According to Bono, the title War was given because at that particular time, armed conflicts had erupted in various parts of the world (Falklands, Middle East, South Africa, and elsewhere). On the now legendary cover, the face of Peter Rowen is featured, as it was with the album Boy, this time in a captive pose.
The success of the album was such that it managed to dethrone Michael Jackson's Thriller from the No.1 spot in Britain (!). After War and the 11,000,000 copies it sold, nothing would be the same for the group from Dublin. For the record, the contribution of producer Steve Lillywhite should also be mentioned, as he showcased the talent of each band member in the best possible way.
