About the album Songs Of Innocence

The thirteenth album by U2 titled Songs Of Innocence from 2014 was a collection of songs recorded between the years 2009 and 2014. U2 take a dive into their past and the bands they listened to as teenagers and young adults. Thus, the songs on the album are influenced by their own "heroes." A characteristic of this is the first single titled The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone).

The album has a unique promotional history. U2, disappointed by the sales of No Line On The Horizon, took a step that no one could predict. The album was released on September 9, 2014, and it was announced that the album would be available for free until October 13 on the iTunes Store. Thus, Songs Of Innocence could theoretically reach 500,000,000 users of the online music platform. Sales in physical form stand at 325,000 copies.

The title of the album, along with that of the band's next album in 2017, Songs of Experience, comes from the collection of poems by William Blake, Songs of Innocence and of Experience.
