About the album TRB Two

TRB Two (often also referred to as TRB2) is the second and final studio album by the Tom Robinson Band, which was released in March 1979 by EMI Records.

The production of the album began under the weight of the "second album syndrome." While the songs of the first album had been written over two years, the material for TRB Two had to be prepared in just a few months, amidst continuous touring. Tom Robinson collaborated in songwriting with names like Elton John and Peter Gabriel, seeking a new direction. The recordings took place at Pye Studios in London in December 1978. Todd Rundgren was chosen for production, a decision that caused a definitive rift within the band. The original drummer, Dolphin Taylor, strongly disagreed with Rundgren’s selection of certain songs and left the group just one day before the recording sessions began. His position on drums for the album was taken by session musician Preston Heyman. Despite the internal friction, the album remained a sharp social manifesto through songs like Bully For You, Blue Murder, and Black Angel.

The album's commercial trajectory failed to reach the levels of Power In The Darkness (No. 4). TRB Two reached No. 18 in the UK. The internal conflicts and disappointment with the final outcome led to the disbandment of the Tom Robinson Band just four months after its release, during a tour in the USA.
