About the album Too Close To Heaven

In 2001, Mike Scott gathers ten songs that had been previously recorded by the Waterboys - primarily during the Fisherman's Blues recording sessions - and presents them in the collection Too Close To Heaven. It is considered by many fans of the band as the completion of the 1988 album. Through this work, the Waterboys impeccably approach the folk-rock tradition without forgetting that in essence, they want to write rock songs.

The truth is that it could very comfortably stand as yet another studio album by the Waterboys. The record begins with the cover of the traditional On My Way To Heaven and continues with one masterpiece following the next. Among all the songs on the album, the eponymous Too Close To Heaven undoubtedly stands out and impresses with its duration that exceeds twelve minutes (!) and its lyrics are about the myth of Icarus. In the U.S., the album was released under the title Fisherman's Blues, Part Two.

Too Close To Heaven reached No. 111 in the United Kingdom.
