About the album Book Of Lightning

The Waterboys released the ninth album of their career in April 2007. Its title is Book Of Lightning and it is an album with ten compositions. It is considered a return to a more "full-on rock" sound compared to the previous, more introspective Universal Hall. It combines elements of arena rock with the group's characteristic "raggle taggle" folk aesthetic. The production was done by Mike Scott and Philip Tennant, who had collaborated with the band on Fisherman's Blues in 1988.

Most of the album was recorded in London in the fall of 2006. Exceptions are the track Sustain, which was recorded in Vancouver with the band Great Aunt Ida, and The Man With The Wind At His Heels, recorded at Scott's home in Scotland. The song Sustain was recorded in Vancouver with the Canadian band Great Aunt Ida. Apart from Mike Scott, violinist Steve Wickham, pianist Richard Naiff, and other musicians such as Brady Blade (drums) and Leo Abrahams (guitar) participate.

The Book Of Lightning by the Waterboys reached No. 51 in the United Kingdom, while in Norway it reached No. 12 on the country's charts.
