About the album Devil's Road
The Walkabouts reached seven studio albums with Devil's Road in 1996. Devil's Road was considered a notable shift in the band's sound as they attempted to achieve a more commercial tone. This was aided by their more subdued compositions, most of which were accompanied by strings.
The album was recorded in Cologne, Germany, and features the Warsaw National Philharmonic on strings. The vocals are again shared between Chris Eckman and Carla Torgerson, while the songs are compositions by Eckman. Victor Van Vugt took on the production of the album.
Sales of Devil's Road are estimated at around 100,000 copies, most of which have been sold in European countries. The album is among the best works of the group from Seattle.
