About the album Café Bleu
In early 1984, Café Bleu was released by a newly emerged duo, the Style Council. The duo consists of keyboardist Mick Talbot and former leader and guitarist of the Jam, Paul Weller, who reveals and expresses where he really wanted to go musically, something he had started with the last album of his previous group. Café Bleu borrows elements from soul, jazz, and pop and ultimately becomes an excellent example of sophisti-pop.
Most compositions are by Paul Weller, who is also in charge of the album's production alongside Peter Wilson. Steve White plays drums, while Weller and Talbot undertake almost all the other instruments. In the song The Paris Match, the female voice that performs it belongs to Tracey Thorn of Everything But The Girl.
Café Bleu was particularly appreciated in their homeland, the United Kingdom. The debut of the Style Council reached No2 and sold 100,000 copies. On the other side of the Atlantic, it stopped at No56 on the Billboard.
