About the album Floodland
Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy was introduced in 1987 and immediately made an impression in the circles of the gothic rock and dark wave scene. It couldn't be otherwise either because of Andrew Eldritch's imposing performance or the equally imposing music of the album's eight compositions. The album was also "marked" by the arrival and participation in its creation by American bassist Patricia Morrison, since the original form of Sisters Of Mercy from the first album no longer existed and Eldritch was in search of new collaborators.
The album starts with the seven-minute gothic anthem Dominion/Mother Russia, one of the band's best compositions in their entire career. The other two singles from the album were Lucretia My Reflection and, of course, This Corrosion, which was also its first single, but in a limited version of four minutes as the album's execution reached eleven minutes in length (!)
Floodland is considered by many fans of the band and gothic rock as the best album of Sisters Of Mercy and undoubtedly the album is among the best records of the gothic rock scene of the 1980s. Its sales in the United Kingdom reached 100,000, but where it really experienced acclaim was in Germany with 250,000 copies sold. In the USA, it stopped at No. 101 on the Billboard.
