About the album First And Last And Always
After a series of singles and EPs, the band Sisters Of Mercy released their first album in 1985, titled First And Last And Always. The record is a genuine example of what gothic rock means. Repetitive rhythmic patterns combined with the ethereal and atmospheric performance of Andrew Eldritch.
It took five weeks to record First And Last And Always, during which Eldritch consumed amphetamines daily according to the statements of the album’s producer, Dave Allen.
The album reached No. 14 in the United Kingdom and over the years went gold with sales exceeding 100,000 copies. The "paradox" happened in Germany, where by 2011 its sales had reached 250,000 copies (!)
