Too Much Pressure by The Selecter
About the album Too Much Pressure
A few months after the release of the first album by The Specials, the debut of the band The Selecter also appeared in the British market, a band originating from Coventry, England. With "Too Much Pressure," The Selecter added another brick to the building of the revival of ska music in Great Britain. The album was released in February 1980.
This was preceded by the success of the single "On My Radio," which led 2Tone Records to take an interest in this group of young people. "Too Much Pressure" is an album that consists of both original compositions and covers of earlier authentic ska songs from Jamaica. The compositions of The Selecter belong to guitarist Neol Davies. The two singles from the album were "Three Minute Hero" and "Missing Words." The album was produced by Errol Ross, who collaborated with the group for two months, December 1979 and January 1980, to create "Too Much Pressure." The voice of The Selecter's singer, Pauline Black, made a particular impression, who is considered the best voice that has been part of 2Tone Records.
The album was very positively received by music critics and the public, who sent it straight to No. 5 in the United Kingdom. In contrast, in the USA, the album barely reached No. 175 on the Billboard chart.
