About the album I Just Can’t Stop It

I Just Can’t Stop It was the first album by the Beat from Birmingham and was released by 2 Tone Records in May 1980. The Beat is one of the bands whose compositions were heavily influenced by ska music. Thus, I Just Can’t Stop It is an album full of ska songs that are either their own compositions or covers.

The great success of the album was the ska cover of The Tears Of A Clown, a song with which Smokey Robinson & the Miracles had achieved success in 1970. The album's producer was Bob Sargeant.

At the time of its release, the album was considered a very good album and won over critics. On the other hand, the music-loving public of Great Britain boosted it to No. 3 on the charts, in contrast to the USA, where it reached No. 142 (!)
