Dirty Work by The Rolling Stones
About the album Dirty Work
The eighteenth studio album of the Rolling Stones and its creation is a small miracle as the relationships between the members were at their worst point, with the conflict between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards being so intense that neither could tolerate the presence of the other next to him. This is blatantly obvious from how they are all positioned for the cover photo of the album. Producer Steve Lillywhite had an extremely difficult situation to deal with, as each member of the group recorded their part individually. The title of Dirty Work completely and accurately reflects the entire situation. Officially, the names of The Glimmer Twins, namely Jagger and Richards, were also credited in the production.
Justifiably, most fans of the band consider it their worst work. Another sad event related to Dirty Work is that Ian Stewart, who always contributed his invaluable art on the piano, died suddenly shortly before the album’s release. Nevertheless, there was a major hit that emerged from the record, which was One Hit To The Body, featuring a guitar solo by Jimmy Page (!). Something worth seeing is the music video for the song, where Mick Jagger and Keith Richards actually push each other during the filming, which was characteristic of their relationship at the time. Another successful song was the cover of Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl from 1963.
Dirty Work reached No. 4 in both Great Britain and the USA. In their homeland, it sold 100,000 copies and in the USA it reached 1,000,000 copies.
