The truth is that much had changed in the way a guitarist played the electric guitar in the mid-'60s, but the American Jimi Hendrix would come and shake everything up with his pioneering way.

In his first album, Jimi Hendrix, along with Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums, blend acid rock, blues, psychedelic rock, and deliver Are You Experienced. A significant figure behind this album was the British Chas Chandler, who had just left the Animals to get involved with the management of other artists. He believed in Jimi Hendrix's potential and took on the role of his manager and producer after first convincing him to come to London.

The album first succeeded in Britain, spending 33 weeks on the UK charts, reaching No. 2. Success in the U.S. came later. Today, Are You Experienced has sold over 5,000,000 copies in the U.S.
