About the album Pornography
With their fourth album - without knowing it - in 1982, The Cure laid another cornerstone in the creation of gothic rock. Pornography is the musical depiction of what was happening at the time among the members of The Cure and mainly inside Robert Smith's mind. Pornography seems to gather all the darkness of The Cure's three previous albums, renew it, and release it through its eight songs.
Pornography was recorded at RAK Studios in London between January and April 1982 and was released on May 3rd of the same year. Pornography is a post, post-punk, post-new wave album. It is an album where psychedelia meets new wave. The later bassist of The Cure, Phil Thornalley, was co-producer of the album. The one and only single from the album was The Hanging Garden, which reached No.34 on the UK Singles Chart.
Pornography was the first album by The Cure to enter the UK Top-10, reaching No.8. In the US, it only reached No.133.
