Psychedelic Jungle by The Cramps
About the album Psychedelic Jungle
Psychedelic Jungle was released in 1981 and is the second album by The Cramps, marking their characteristic psychobilly sound. It is the first record with Kid Congo Powers on guitar, who added a darker, "hypnotic" atmosphere alongside the explosive duo of Lux Interior and Poison Ivy.
The album is a tribute to 50s rock 'n' roll and 60s garage, filled with covers that the band transformed into "nightmarish" b-movies. Tracks like the iconic Goo Goo Muck and The Native No-Good showcase their love for b-horror aesthetics and primitive rhythm. The album's production was handled by the band's own members. It was recorded in January 1981 in California.
Although its pace is slightly slower and "swamped" compared to their debut, the production highlights the intensity and sexual charge of Interior's voice. Psychedelic Jungle remains one of the most influential records of the underground, proving that punk can be simultaneously chilling, danceable, and utterly stylish.
