About the album London Calling
And as the 1970s come to an end, on December 14th, the third studio album of the Clash arrives to close this diverse decade in the most celebratory way. London Calling is one of the most masterful double albums of all time. Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon, under the guidance of producer Guy Stevens, create and deliver nineteen songs, each serving as a gateway to nineteen different musical realms.
The listener has the chance to enjoy the harmonious coexistence of hard rock, ska, rhythm 'n' blues, rockabilly, reggae, lounge jazz, pop & rock, all through the lens of punk. The song lyrics touch on every aspect of social life in the western world as it had evolved from the end of World War II to the late 1970s.
The fact that in the USA it has sold 1,000,000 copies speaks for itself about the value of the English band's third album, with just as many sold across the rest of the world. In their homeland, it reached No. 9 and went platinum.
