About the album Give 'Em Enough Rope

The second album by The Clash was released in 1978 titled Give 'Em Enough Rope. The band continues here its punk rock musical explorations with songs like English Civil War, Tommy Gun, which were the singles of the album, or Guns On The Roof.

Most of the compositions are by the duo Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The lyrics of the songs deal with social and political issues of the then current events in their country or on a global level. The album was produced by Sandy Pearlman. It was the first album for drummer Topper Headon, who had joined the band shortly before the start of the recordings.

Give 'Em Enough Rope was the first album by the British band The Clash that was officially released in the USA following a relative success that their debut, which arrived in the USA as an import album, had achieved. The idea was not too effective, as it reached No. 128 on the Billboard. Conversely, in Great Britain, it reached No. 2, one step from the top.
