About the album Script Of The Bridge
The Script Of The Bridge, the debut album of The Chameleons, released on August 8, 1983, is considered one of the top examples of British post-punk. The album combines post-punk and gothic rock with elements of new wave and even dream pop.
All the songs are compositions by the band's members, while Mark Burgess's lyrics focus on themes such as loss, childhood, isolation, and social indifference. The recording took place at Cargo Studios in Rochdale, England. The production was undertaken by the Chameleons themselves along with Colin Richardson, for whom this was the first LP production. The singles from the album were the songs Up The Down Escalator, Don't Fall, As High as You Can Go, and A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days.
Despite the huge critical acclaim, the album did not achieve significant commercial success in the main charts at the time. It did not manage to enter the UK Top-40, although it had a notable presence in the UK Indie Charts. It is now considered a cult classic and is often ranked in lists of the best albums of the 80s.
