About the album The Big Come Up

The duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney from Ohio, along with the help of Gabe Fulvimar on the instrument called moog bass, recorded and presented their first album in 2002, titled The Big Come Up.

It is an album of raw and rough blues rock. And how could it not be, since the album opens with Busted, a cover of a song by bluesman R. L. Burnside, and continues with Do The Rump by Junior Kimbrough. A third cover that the Black Keys choose to present is She Said, She Said by the Beatles from the album Revolver. The rest of the songs are compositions by the duo. Patrick Carney was responsible for the sound production. The recording of the album took place in the basement of the latter's house with two cheap microphones and a 16-track digital audio recording machine.

The album's sales were negligible for the size of the American market. In order to promote the album, the duo took out a loan. Ultimately, in hindsight, and knowing the subsequent career of the Black Keys, we can say that their persistence and risk paid off. The Big Come Up seems like a cult album from another era and not the early twenty-first century.
